What does it mean if my biopsy mentions that there is perineural invasion?

Post surgery, pathologist examine the tumor that has been removed. Perineural invasion is one of the matrices measured by them during the examination of removed tumor. Its presence suggests that the nerves around the tumor are found to be invaded by cancer cells. It is one of the bad prognostic factors for local recurrence since it reflects the fact that the tumor cells have already invaded the nerves outside of the primary tumor.
