There are no age criteria recommended to start screening for cancer. Risk of cancer generally increases after the age of 40. Screening tests for some cancers like cervix, breast, and colon are recommended to detect cancer at an early stage. For example, for breast cancer, mammography is done annually after 45 years of age along with self-breast examination and clinical breast examination. For cervical cancer, pap test is most commonly done and it usually starts at the age of 21 years or age of start of sexual activity. Hence, different cancers have different screening guidelines.
